THE DESIGN, BRIEFLY

Source I worked from: Admiralty chart lettering and engineering drawing title blocks. Display is Newsreader against a Public Sans body (deliberately different families), with mono confined to coordinates, object dates and the light readout — never prose. Ink on chart paper, 70/20/10, with one accent: the "sector red" of a port-hand mark. I rejected the near-black + brass + serif "tasteful darkroom" look and recorded why in the stylesheet header, since the subject is a *dark* light seen in daylight, documented on paper.

The hero's one orchestrated moment is the light-character readout: three red bars replaying the tower's real `Fl(3) W 15s` flash group at true intervals once, in under a second, then resting. Derived from the subject's own data, not particles or gradient blobs. No gradient, no shadow, no glass, one radius value anywhere, zero all-caps micro-labels.

TWO REAL BUGS I FOUND BY SCREENSHOTTING, NOT BY READING

1. Both "Book a tour by email" and "Email the volunteer coordinator" rendered as solid red blocks with *invisible labels*. Cause: `.place a` / `.prose a` (specificity 0,1,1) outranked `.btn` (0,1,0), painting the label in its own background colour. Fixed with `:not(.btn)`. Now 6.2:1.
2. The readout strip's labels sat at 4.36:1 on the tone panel — just under AA. Moved to the next ink step; now 6.02:1.

THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW

- The geography is real and accurate (Cape Solander at 34°01′S 151°14′E, Kurnell, Kamay Botany Bay NP, Gweagal Country, humpbacks June–July). The Society, the 1865 tower, its decommissioning, the tours, the collection and the email addresses are all invented — there is no lighthouse there. That's recorded in an HTML comment in the source rather than in the visible copy, which would have broken the brief.
- `og:image` is a relative path so it resolves next to the file locally. It must become absolute, with `og:url` and a canonical link, when this goes on a domain. Noted in a source comment.
- I shipped a light theme only, so there is no untested dark variant to go wrong.
- Heads up: this directory is being written by several concurrent runs of this same task. Another one overwrote `index.html` at 03:15 with a different version (1877 tower, `assets/solander-watch/`). I backed it up, redeployed mine, and re-verified. A pristine copy is staged at `.hermes/profiles/r2-rules-lighthouse-2-r/cache/scratch/csl-index.html` — if it gets clobbered again, that's a one-line restore.
